Fall, my favorite time of year is upon us. The cool mornings, spectacular colors of nature, and the rustling of wildlife make me feel so alive. Before Lydia died, the months of fall were the center of our family activities. Camping, hunting, scenic drives, and enjoying the outdoors was a frequent occurrence in our house.
Here I was, the mom who thought she had it all together, yet at times, found herself struggling to compete with the demands and stereotypes of motherhood. Lydia, however, had it together. Confident, outgoing, joyful, fearless, proud, loving, are all words to describe her bubbling personality. Oh, how I miss her zest for life!
Here’s a picture of her with her “favorite” hunting buddy, the October before she died. Lydia looked forward to this time of year being able to enjoy the outdoors and spend time with the people she adored. She spent hours laughing, smiling, learning, listening, admiring her friend. She was content in every moment, happy to be alive.

“My Buddy!”
Now, my life seems vividly defined by a plethora of before and afters. So much has changed since she’s been gone, I find myself referring to life before Lydia and after. This weekend, as we embark on our fall hunting and outdoor activities, I remember her and what sunshine and happiness she brought to so many. Lydia, you are missed everyday, but you are with us wherever we go!
